All of the RIH BOE candidates profess to be against book bans and censorship.

Audrey Souders, Melisssa Kiel and Jared Geist are endorsed by New Jersey Project/NJ Schools and supported by Moms for Liberty Members. These groups support Book Bans as well as hidden cameras on students to record teachers in classrooms.

In August of 2022, Audrey Souders encouraged the Board to vote down the entire Curriculum, because she did not feel the literature was appropriate. She specifically referenced “The Great Gatsby”, “Death of a Salesman”, “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, and “Why the Caged Bird Sings”. "Why the Caged Bird Sings" was specifically referenced in a suggested book ban letter sent to the Board (as well as all three FLOW Town Councils) last month. The letter suggests that Ms. Sullivan should ‘please take steps to address the books available in our schools’ library.'

[EXTERNAL] You are very welcome Ms. Sullivan. Please take steps to address the books available in our school's library

“Ms. Sullivan,

You are most welcome.

Under your and Ms. Ansh' s great leadership so much has been accomplished in 2023.

While you will be missed, there is much at stake with this November's election - an election that is very important to secure a super majority of parental rights board members who will ensure your great work in running the schools continues. Please keep the push to raise awareness and support those candidates who will strengthen the foundation you built.

Thank you again for doing all you can to eliminate the woke ideologies being pushed in our classrooms, putting the wishes of parents and students front and center.

Here is the list of just some of the books currently in our High Schools that clearly do not align with the values of our conservative community.”

A list of over 90 books, including “Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou, was attached to the letter.

Jared Geist’s letter to the community says he wants ‘traditional curriculum’ without ‘woke ideology’. How does he plan to accomplish his goal without imparting his own censorship to remove things he doesn’t agree with from our Curriculum and our libraries?

Vote King, Eilert and DeLaite, who stand against Censorship and Book Bans and trust the teachers in our classrooms.
