Our RIH district is in the news again - for all the wrong reasons.
Today’s article on North Jersey dot com focuses on how parents' rights candidates are impacting our local schools, and RIH is front and center in the article.
The RIH Board of Education, with a new majority comprised of 'parental rights' advocates, has been in the news repeatedly since January. The article touches upon some of their actions, including firing the district’s long time legal counsel, restricting the Superintendent's access to district counsel, and overturning several of the Superintendent’s recommendations on Harassment, Intimation and Bullying cases. It also points to the resignations of Business Administrator Tom Lambe and the new Board attorneys The Busch Law Group.
According to the article, Lambe said the atmosphere on the board also drove other staff members to resign. “"Lack of trust" in the superintendent and school administration displayed by the five majority members has "held the district back,” Lambe told North Jersey dot com.
Minority board member Dr. Aaron Lorenz recapped it as follows: "There is a theme here, and it is this: The board majority believe that they can run the schools. Every decision they have made since Jan. 5 is emblematic of that belief. I believe that the experts run the schools, teach the classes, advise the students, inspire and motivate the students, guide the students, and every other aspect of what goes on in the schools that the board need not be aware of, let alone vote on. It is my hope that Dr. Dionisio will be able to soon run the schools without this meddling.”
