It was a relatively short meeting of the RIH BOE tonight - under one hour. All items on the agenda passed.

Superintendent search - 23 candidates completed applications for the Superintendent job, 17 of which were from NJ.

Several students and community members spoke against the abolishment of Policy 5756 Transgender Students. The BOE did not respond to their comments.

A member of the community (former FLK8 BOE member) noted that the BOE has added several new positions, without approving the Job Descriptions for the positions, and without the BOE being involved in the negations for salaries. This appears to have occurred outside the collective bargaining process (was board counsel involved? Did the parties to the contracts agree?) New positions were added without abolishing the old positions - do they intend to keep both? The BOE did not respond to the comments.

The same member of the community asked whether the Dr. Baker, RIH BOE Interim Superintendent, was the ONLY Superintendent in NJ who recommended the abolishment of Policy 5756 (many boards abolished the policy, but against the recommendation of their Superintendent.) Does anyone know the answer to this?

BOE Committee chairs made reference to Jaffe Communications (the PR firm) making recommendations for website changes and IHHS celebrations. Has the community noticed the PR firms efforts? Please comment below if you have noted positive impact from the PR firms efforts.
